I haven't posted much lately...something's been bugging me though...

I haven't taken as many shots lately, but this guy showed up recently and sat still enough for me to mess around with the extension tubes and radio triggered Sunpak.

Ok...I remembered again that I have this site here to update...

I found these odd Star Wars toys in a bookstore. Even though they smell horribly of smoke I had to take them. Why anyone decided to make a run of Star Wars characters on Motorcycles I'll never know. But they gave me a reason to get my lightbox out of the basement.

Yea-aaaahhhhhh!

The race is on!

Back to the nature of things

Still working through files from vacation last month.

Yondota falls. I really wish the rain had held off a little longer here. These falls extend quite a distance with drops and bends. Here I was laying on the rocks using more rocks to support the camera. I'd already stowed the tripod since the rain started up again and it wouldn't have opened low enough anyway.

Round the bend

Jackson B. Frog. There were a good number of these guys. I found them accidentally just as I almost stepped on one. I was heading to take photos of water through a dam and saw something jump. I think it's wishing I was gone.

You done yet?

A couple of close ups from our trip up north. Here two mushrooms I happened to catch in time before destroyed either by feet or time.

Almost missed this one

There for now

A couple from the weekend

I didn't intend both to be black and white but it just turned out that way...

A shot from the Bobaflex set at Taste of Madison event last weekend:

Up close on death

Well that's where they get the stuff...

I'm finally starting to get to processing my files from vacation. This was one of many mushrooms I tried to get down to their levels with. I had to lay on the hill and wait for the sun, clouds and trees to cooperate. There is a good bit of softness to the image but it's what I was going for. A shallow depth of field with magnification and grasses in the vicinity that would be out of focus. I did a little sharpening in post but not that much.
All they mythical creatures were on break...

Abandonment and Decay

I recently had the opportunity to go on a ride with a couple of very skilled photographers I've met at flickrmeets to shoot abandoned buildings. First it makes you look for the interesting or beautiful in total crapheaps. Then periodically I was left wondering, "Just what happened here?" There are often partly packed rooms left as they are. Others are clearly a dwelling that was cleared but never re-occupied and animals or partiers found their way in. I decided ahead of time that most of these were going to be b&w. It seemed that would be the medium best suited. But the trunk below offered interesting contrasts with the rust and other stains that I decided to keep the color.

It's coming right for us!

Welcome to the basement work area

Come on in

I'm still standing!

What happened here?

A couple of recent photos:

Macro shot of the center of an orchid. I like that when you look close in on flowers you often find strange looking structures
Wait, I was shooting a flower, where'd that thing come from?

And some not so unfamiliar

Been a few days, but here's a series I did in the office...

Some people like having exotic pets...
Newly adopted

But when they encounter strange circumstances they can become unpredictable:
Sometimes it doesn't take much

and they can turn on you...
If only there was someone to save her

If only there was someone to save her!
Aha! Ariving just in time!

After a long fight the mysterious stranger was victorious!
Victorious

And of course found time to pose for photos and autographs...

A couple of older photos.

I took this in...hmm...90-something while on vacation somewhere, I can't really remember, Spain maybe?

Eiffel Tower

Even older...I took this in fall of '87 at Lawrence University. Dizzy came to play with the jazz band and I took this during the rehearsal. Then the negative sat undeveloped for years until I took up photography and had equipment to develop the film and make the print. I was surprised the negatives were still in decent condition.
